AKTION I in Antwerp is the first guerilla store by the Belgian fashion brand A.F. Vandevorst (designer duo An Vandevorst and Filip Arickx). Vintage hospital beds, a glass medicine cabinet, and X-ray pictures create an extraordinary atmosphere and an interesting backdrop for the beautiful, great quality clothing, shoes, and accessories. They fit perfectly into this unique interior.
The store is selling all A.F. Vandevorst collections: A.F. Vandevorst, A.Friend (the recently introduced more affordable line of jersey and knitwear pieces, inspired by friends of A.F. Vandevorst), Fetish, Nightfall, and Relics.
AKTION I was opened in December 2009, with plans to move to other cities after a few months. Here are some pictures I took at the Antwerp location (Volkstraat 29/31), which will possibly be open until some time in June (date to be confirmed – check their website for updates).
El Perro Del Mar‘s Change of Heart (from the album Love Is Not Pop) is a song I can listen to for hours. And the video directed by Filip Nilsson is absolutely beautiful.
A feast for magazine lovers: O.K. Festival / 3 Days of Magazines – a great event in Arnhem three weeks ago (16 – 18 April), with lectures, magazine presentations, debates, workshops, and an exhibition of over 100 independent magazines from all over the world.
This three day festival presented an interesting selection of magazines on photography, art, cinema, fashion, design, and culture, most of them very special and beautiful publications.
I enjoyed the talks about magazine design, co-creation, inspiration, the future of print, and magazine presentations – Glamcult presentation by Rogier Vlaming and Maeb presentation by Martijn Brugman were great, they shared with the audience their very different but equally inspiring stories.
The one and only Athenaeum Nieuwscentrum ran the festival shop.
Lovely interiors of the recently opened The Chocolate Line chocolaterie in the historic Paleis op de Meir in Antwerp. Visitors can also peek into the kitchen and watch the delicious chcocolates being made. Nice idea.
The Chocolate Line was founded in Bruges in 1992 by “shock-o-latier” Dominique Persoone and Fabienne Destaercke.
Bang Bang – nice video promoting the new album of Ania Dabrowska – Ania Movie. The album is a collection of covers – songs known from films, and among them are such classics as Everbody’s Talkin’ from Midnight Cowboy, Suicide Is Painless from M*A*S*H, and Strawberry Fields Forever – in their new arrangements Ania recreates the magic of the cinema in her own unique way.
Lula, Girl Of My Dreams, is a wonderful read. Truly girly and dreamy, this biannual magazine is filled with beautiful fashion, interesting interviews, and features covering film, art, and music.
The new Issue 10 lets its readers peek into the daily lives of Joanna Newsom, Ludivine Sagnier, and Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama, among others. I also liked the portrayal of actress Shelley Duvall. The interview with designer Antonio Marras is illustrated with photography by Ellen von Unwerth. Lula’s fashion favorites can be found in the Lula Loves section.
Great design, nice typography, inspiring photography, and the aura of innocence add to Lula’s unique character.
Lula is 5 years old and it’s fresh and simply delightful. Happy birthday Lula!
